An Instant Confidence Boost

Hey guys, it’s Coach Rebecca. Today I want to talk to you about an extremely fast way to improve your confidence anytime you are heading into a competition.

Improving confidence and working on your mental game can be quick

I think there is this really big misconception around mental training or any kind of self-improvement or therapy, that it just takes forever. It actually does not take long to shift your mindset.

People tend to think you have to talk, talk, talk, and you have to go to long meetings every week. But you don’t. Parents always say we just don’t have time. We go to the gym then we go to bed. Coaches always say we don’t have time to train the minds of our athletes, we have to get them hitting skills.

How long does it take to improve confidence?

There are literally instant things you can do to boost your confidence. There are instant things you can do to change the way you think about yourself, and the way you think about competition. You can in an instant change your mindset, and its not a matter of spending a long time, it just takes repetition.

An example of an instant change

There is a study that was done about the way you talk to yourself before you perform. Part of it is pretending. When you are getting ready to compete you have to tell yourself that you are excited. Even if your heart is pounding, your hands are sweaty, you have butterflies, and you feel like you are going to pee your pants, you have to tell yourself you are excited not nervous. It is taking that bad feeling of nervousness and turning it into the positive thought of excitement. If you tell yourself ” oh I am so excited” your body goes oh, that’s what all that energy is, okay got it.

How do you make improved confidence last?

Pre-performance routine. Every time you are getting ready to compete you can add telling yourself you are excited not nervous to your pre-performance routine. That’s where you put in the work, in preparing your pre-performance routine to help improve your confidence before every competition. Once you get your brain trained, your body is much freer to do what you have trained it to do. That is one easy trick to improve confidence.
